Showcase the new Google app for Hangouts on Air.

Showcase the new Google app for Hangouts on Air.
It's fun. Great big screen for presenters. But
you need to decide if this is right for your HOA.

This app is geared toward presentation to provide links to direct viewers to websites, merchandise, YouTube videos, your Google+ profile and Google Play content, all in a rich display on the right-hand side of the Hangout broadcast.
If you are doing an educational hangout and want to lead people to a page. It's great.
If you are launching a new product and want to lead people to a landing page. It's great.
If you are promoting your new music album. It's great.
OTOH everyone
If your event is guest and/or panel focused your audience has to open to tabs.
* one to view the presentation
*one for the comment stream
If your goal is to create audience participation and interaction with you and your guests, you should consider the "old-style" format in order to facilitate audience interaction.

You need to make a decision on the primary purpose of your Hangout.
*Is it to lead your audience somewhere else?
*Or, is it to keep your audience focused on your discussion and to actively participate?

Slick tool. Just be aware that Showcase has a specific purpose to lead your audience away from your current presentation.

Showcase content in Hangouts On Air

Hosting a Hangout On Air is a great way to connect with your audience. While viewers are tuned in, this is the perfect time to share or promote something related to the conversation. Using the new Showcase app, hosts can now direct viewers to websites, merchandise, YouTube videos, your Google+ profile and Google Play content, all in a rich display on the right-hand side of the Hangout broadcast.

Now, anyone can host a live conversation and connect their viewers to a variety of related content. Take a look at how the cast of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes used the Showcase app to link to exclusive footage, movie tickets, and more (http://goo.gl/GngZvv). Also, check out how Common used the Showcase app to promote his new music video and to drive fans directly to the Play Store to purchase his new album in real-time (http://goo.gl/4QGi7O).

There are all kinds of ways to enrich your live conversations using Showcase. We’re excited to see what you’ll share in your next Hangout On Air. Give it a try today: http://goo.gl/oMXG1M!

  2. Yeah I don't like it. I think it has it's place but to get a conversation with the viewers it's not the way to go. Live and learn

  3. Wade Harman It's not for my show either. I want the audience with me and engaged.:)

  4. Helpful explanation. Thank you Zara Altair it's picking up where the shopping HOA seems to have left.

This could also be used as a promotional tool for upcoming HOA whilst providing links to earlier content or newsletter or podcast signups.

Since this app banks on the Q&A app, its a rather efficient tool even to collect questions prior a live panel HOA.

Endless possibilities. Personally I see it as a robust sales tool. Instead of over the counter natter its over the q&a natter.

Unlike panel HOA there would be merely one presenter, I would think. Am I right?
