Talking about tribes last night on After Dark with Grizwald Grim and Mark H.O.A. Seydel. If the tribe feeds on the herd, who is the herd?
This came to mind. The Hunter Gets Captured by the Game
Everyday brings change, and the world puts on a new face
Certain things rearrange, and this whole world seems like a new place
Secretly i been tailing you
Like a fox that prays on a rabbit
Had to get you and so i knew
I had to learn your ways and habits
Ooooooh, you were the catch that i was after
I looked up and i was in your arms and i knew that i was captured

What's this whole world comin to
Things just ain't the same
Any time the hunter gets captured by the game

I had to lay such a tender trap
Hoping you might fall into it
Love hit me with a sudden slap
One kiss and then i knew it
Ooooooh, my plans didn't work out like i thought
'Cause i had laid my trap for you but it seems that i got caught

What's this whole world comin to
Things just ain't the same
Any time the hunter gets captured by the game

Ah yeah, yeah yeah, hey yeah(Oh, and I'm a super #smokeyrobinson  lyric fan)

  1. Zara,  I love how you connected your discussion with this song! That you posted the lyrics, well that's a great bonus.  I love how you've put the song into a context beyond just a love song (and one of the best love songs at that!)  They lyrics that came from Smokey as well as his fellow Miracles at times inspired me to get into songwriting. This song blindsided me for it's sheer beauty and power of language.

Thank you for such a fantastic post!

  2. Oppo Thumbs Well thank you! And yes, what a great way to say it, the music is very haunting. When I first played this record, that exactly the feeling I got from the opening harmonica solo. It gave me chills.

It's hard to call it a "soul" song, and hard to call it "pop." It actually is one of the rare Motown songs to sort of be it's own genre. Yes, I'd agree that this is really an example of a perfect song.

  3. Zara Altair I am so late to this, Zara, but from what I'm reading, I love you for putting this song into such an intelligent, insightful light. And I REALLY thank you for your comment being here. So very appreciated- and i too am a fellow Smokey Robinson lyric fan. His songs got me to really appreciate the beauty of language and how linking up certain words can elevate a song from merely being good, to being excellent.
