Although this article is from last year around this time of year it is still something you might appreciate if you answer "yes" to one or both of the aforementioned questions.

Books that have art on the edges that only shows up when the pages are fanned! when the book is closed or the pages held tight inline the images hide away waiting for the next exposure!

Apparently this art has been used on books since the 1600's. Some books even came with 2 sets of art depending on which way you fanned the pages.
