The Big Easy

I have to say I was pretty thankful for a bit of an easy week this week. There was so much unmissable content that this post almost wrote itself!

The baby bird that just hatched

I always try to catch The Mia Connect Power Chat particularly so when it’s the Weekend Edition. There’s always a special atmosphere. In Easy Like Sunday Morning (http://goo.gl/Dk4QEk) Mia Voss shares a Mimosa with Ileane Smith and gives us a run down of the recent Success 3.0 Summit. Augmented by #BatPackers Sean Mahon, Nazim Beltran and an incognito Shannon Hernandez this is first class entertainment that made a Sunday of programming much more palatable for me. As ever the #BatCrapCrazy #timestamp post to assist here (http://goo.gl/zEkxIn)

Two of my favourite Plussers, Gina Fiedel and Alexandra Riecke-Gonzales, joined Stephanie Sims and DENNIS N. DUCE in the Network Round Table Small Biz Happy Hour HOA Stepping Back (http://goo.gl/MGvDcO) for a very interesting discussion about coping with the demands of running a small business by taking the opportunity to step back from a situation. This one will get you thinking about how you could have handled something differently and more importantly how you may handle it moving forward.

Get this while you can

I’m always interested in hearing from people that are doing what they want to do in business and this week Yifat Cohen introduced us to jeff johnson in Building a business around your lifestyle (http://goo.gl/lNmBMC). Jeff talks about a lot of things that a dear to me, doing things for yourself, giving all your best stuff away and being helpful. Like all the best information it seems like common sense but surprising how often the simple, effective actions are overlooked by those trying to get ahead in business. A great second half where Yifat invited members of her Inner Circle to ask questions leading to a further reinforcement of an effective lead funnel process and building the relationships with your list. So what’s with the while you can? Well the HOA is publicly available for a limited time only and will then only be available to Yifat’s Inner Circle (a pretty good reason to join the Inner Circle if you ask me!)

Double David

A few technical glitches have been bugging HOAs recently but I’m glad to say they didn’t prevent David Amerland from joining Eric Enge and Mark Traphagen for the late First Tuesday Digital Marketing Answers Show: Impact of Communities on Social Media Marketing (http://goo.gl/i1OdKm). The show kicked off with some discussion about the latest staffing news from Google and Bing and what this might mean. Moving on the panel looked at the dynamics of communities and how this can be advantageous in your marketing efforts, building long-term trust and growing reputation / authority. It’s no easy win though as it will take sustained effort to be seen to be authentic. An excellent overview of the opportunities from participation in communities. Are you making the most of them?

David was seen again as host of the eleventh Social Media Today Power Talk: Leadership in Social Media (http://goo.gl/JUnXd6) inviting Tanveer Naseer and Ana Hoffman to share their thoughts on leadership. An interesting exploration of the subject that touches on the importance of responsiveness and availability, listening and engaging effectively. As ever you’ll take away a lot from this intense 35 minute show.

I’m always in favour of supporting Small Businesses as they try to make their way on the Web. As such I always look forward to the Web Technology for Small Business events from RightStart Websites. In Search and Beyond - Web Visibility for Small Businesses (http://goo.gl/0M31v3) John Moore and Marilyn Moore were joined by everyone’s favourite curmudgeon Ammon Johns who just happens to be very knowledgeable about SEO and Web Visibility. Always getting to the information that can really help a Small Business this show should always be in your diary. You can also dip into the bits that matter with the ever helpful #timestamp post here (http://goo.gl/x0Azli).

Positively Pinteresting

If there’s one person that can be relied upon to provide some sensible, expert advice about exploring and leveraging Pinterest it’s Cynthia Sanchez and this week you have two chances to benefit from her knowledge and experience. Firstly in the latest episode of Content Warfare TV: Pinterest Content Marketing Mastery (http://goo.gl/B8MXGZ) with Ryan Hanley. Ryan always does a solid job, asking just the right questions to draw out a comprehensive overview of the topic. And now I also want to see this image of the three, caped men jumping wearing Zorro masks!

Next up in the Manly Pinterest Tips Show (http://goo.gl/X3kPMv) with Jeff Sieh adding testosterone in bucketloads! This show concentrates on the changes happening in Pinterest including the smart feed filter and what this may mean to people just starting out on Pinterest. Cracking stuff from both shows. Well worth the viewing time if you’re hoping to gain a new audience on the pinning platform.

Thinkers corner

An epic from Eli Fennell this week. Evolution at the Crossroads (http://goo.gl/YGaHsX) reflects on the impacts of our instantly, and constantly, connected world. There are so many dimensions to this that anything I could say here could never do it justice - this is one you just have to read.

todd l lebeauc has been producing some great posts around the Attention Economy this week and I really do recommend a visit to his profile to read through them all - Todd never fails to provide the stimuli for deeper thought. If you can only get to one post then I would go for the latest Attention Economic Sanctioning: Attention Economy Attention Deficit Disorder (http://goo.gl/kHkUDb) and work back from there. I always relish the journey through Todd’s posts.

Yes it’s a big thinkers corner this week! Moving on to a Bruce Marko piece, The Power Within (http://goo.gl/CzTFa0) looks at the stories that abound in every culture that inspire action and hope. What is surprising to me is that these tales of heroic characters are perhaps more relevant today than before (or that may just be me or my generation). In either case this piece of #MarkoKoolAid has me thinking about masks and capes - which is no bad thing for a Friday ;-) Many thanks Bruce.

Wrapping up this section with another from Colin Walker because he’s still on fire this week and there’s not enough poetry on the Plus (Alright I know that’s inviting a deluge of  links to the contrary but you know what I mean). What’s particularly special about Between Lies and Truth (http://goo.gl/qlPwZB) is the collaboration behind each verse so you’ll also want to take a look at the post where it all came together (linked at the bottom of Colin’s post) I’m sure it won’t be the last collaborative social poem.

And finally…

It had to happen. There has been just too much activity. Yes, it was inevitable that Hitler Finds Out About Eli Fennell's Memes (http://goo.gl/kMsC2o) A little self-deprecation goes a long way and I’m sure you’ll enjoy this further adventure in Memeland from Eli Fennell. We better not tell him about our Eli Fan Club yet. That’ll just upset him more. Classic.

Have a great weekend wherever you are
