Pondering the words of Voltaire...

Great. Friday rolls around, and there is so much to be found on the socialized media channels to view. The week has been a #clusterheadache  of epic proportions, and was sadly overcast when those souls now gone, lost their voice forever.

I wonder some days if Voltaire got it wrong? Let's face it, the pen (or pencil, tablet, smartphone, and computer) is a #sharpstick  to be wielded. Responsibility and awareness come into play when exercising ones voice in both humoured and serious tone. Simply just being yourself can have dire consequences. Fatal consequences. How quickly are you willing to stand up for your voice to be heard, in a world that repeatedly and invitingly states "Be yourself"?

And what of Sensitivity? Are you aware of losses at the other end of the stream; across the pond, or at the other end of your own home town? Do you know of the anguish they may be suffering from loss of loved ones? Does your voice of being yourself  trump that of respectfully admitting you are somedays an unaware boor or brute?

No. The days of being yourself, and having a voice are not best faced with Luddite thoughts of best regress and retreat to the past, for the days of yore were so much more simple. History shows time and again where voices were in fact, insensitive and disrespecting. Blissfully ignorant and arrogantly unaware.

Looking to today, and to the days to come, each of us does have a voice; to be heard. In whispers, in nods, in scorning glances and in smiles. In cries of painful regret and sorrow - and happiness that takes one's breath away; speechless.

Perhaps, Voltaire was right? But for the 21C and beyond, maybe - JUST MAYBE this will bring humanity to the point of BE YOUR "AWARE" SELF which may offer the best cause and voice to defend.
