It would seem the answer to this is YES. 
An experiment that went well. 

It started out innocently enough. I was informed by martin shervington that we were gained ranking for a keyword as a Google Answer Box.

Then, a few changes were made to the on page elements of the post in question. What happened 10 days later, that is what is amazing.

The targeted keyword started to rank in non-personalized and incognito search. Actually, it switched. More impressive, was the overall lift for relational keywords. (spoiler) +4% to +215%. 

Granted, the new KB keyword is not a huge volume keyword, and there were most likely many factors at play. 

But, the proof is in the pudding. It can be done.
