ReplyDeleteThanks for "sharing" Zara Altair
A resounding, "YES" '; )
ReplyDelete#thinkingoutloud the phrase "Straight as an arrow" takes on a whole new meaning for me now that others surely will not have a clue #insidejoke
ReplyDeleteZara Altair Thank You !!! Enjoyed the "video " !!! Thanks for additional "link" ...
ReplyDeleteHart GA :) Straight as an arrow, I believe, historically refers to the physical straightness of the arrow as opposed to the natural wood source which was not straight rather than the flight of the arrow.
ReplyDeleteAlso, as I recall... No matter Zara Altair , maybe more of an inside joke than I thought : )
ReplyDeleteHonest, genuine, as in You can trust Pat with the money; he's straight as an arrow. This simile alludes to the arrow's undeviating flight through the air. [Second half of 1900s]

Ha! I may have totally screwed up my etymology Hart GA but I seem to remember this from my archery days. Making an arrow is fine-tuned wood bending. All hail the fletcher!
ReplyDeleteWe'll go with the dictionary for now.
