  4. Hart GA :) Straight as an arrow, I believe, historically refers to the physical straightness of the arrow as opposed to the natural wood source which was not straight rather than the flight of the arrow.

  5. Also, as I recall... No matter Zara Altair  , maybe more of an inside joke than I thought : )

    Honest, genuine, as in You can trust Pat with the money; he's straight as an arrow. This simile alludes to the arrow's undeviating flight through the air. [Second half of 1900s]

  6. Ha! I may have totally screwed up my etymology Hart GA but I seem to remember this from my archery days. Making an arrow is fine-tuned wood bending. All hail the fletcher!
    We'll go with the dictionary for now.
