There seems to be a problem on our lovely little network here causing the cover images for many Profiles and Pages to disappear and go gray. It happened to me, and to at least one Page I manage, as well.
The easiest way to fix this is simply to click Change Cover and reupload your cover image. But what if-gasp!-you didn't save the image?!
No problem, because in fact, the image is still there... it's just hidden. Click the gray space where it used to be, and on the Page that opens up, you will behold your cover image, still there, safe and sound, which you can then download from the More Menu, then reupload to Google+.
Problem solved.
An example is given below, using the Profile of the lovely Priya Chandra (since I neglected to screenshot my own Profile before fixing it).
