New Year's Eve Movie thought...

I watch a favorite film on New Year's Eve. It's a tradition.
I still haven't decided for tonight, it may be The Ogre http://goo.gl/qopJuL

I was having a conversation with neighbors earlier today about violence in films.
I have some favorite films that I've watched many times more than once but I skip certain scenes because the violence is tough for me to watch.
Un prophète http://goo.gl/oiadq4 - murder in the showers
The Godfather  http://goo.gl/2Ir3NQ - icepick in the hand
The Deer Hunter http://goo.gl/2Ir3NQ - Russian roulette
Irréversible http://goo.gl/7mjPyC - the fight in the club with bones breaking (yeah, I can make it through the rape scene)

Do you have a favorite film but skip a certain scene for violence...or something else?

  1. Godfather. Skip nothing. Real world ... little do most know, recognize or cognate. Most live in the "Matrix" ... I'd rather know all about things going on under hood than not. Violence? This is something we are not going to get rid of. You either "wake up" to reality ... or not. I respect you, mia cara, Zara Altair, that you do not wish not to see these things, this is a first instinct, a hindbrain, stamped kind of thinking. "Normal". Instead, may I suggest, train your brain to go well beyond .... study, training, practice ... then perhaps you come to realize, some "flicks" tell the real story. Beep.

  2. Kevin Burns I have seen the violence scenes in each of these films the first time through. Those breaking bones in IRREVERSIBLE actually make me nauseous. Maybe it's just me. I've been attacked on the street, my life threatened with a knife, etc. I know the real world is real.
I respect the filmmakers for these films. For me, it's a visceral reaction to the above mentioned scenes.

  3. Zara Altair, I speak to a larger reality. Many have had real world experiences. I prefer not to let that personal history get in the way of the filmmaker's movies. These are, can be, works of art that go beyond the realm. Godfather is just one of many along these lines. Learn to separate your own experiences from the reality (or fiction) presented ... and know the difference between propaganda and reality. It's that simple. Practice make perfect (or at least something that trends in that direction). Grande baisirs par vous ma petite ami.

  9. Kevin Burns while my story is my own... suffice to say I am but an olde badger viewing the world from the protection of his hedgerow.

Where once was a green valley full of hedgerows, shepherds and trusted sheepdogs protecting their flock with hard work, love and vigilance, so few remain...

The hedgerows removed for more pasture land, the flocks combined, inoculated and tagged for ease of regulation and calculated returns on investments.

My hedgerow is protected, for the moment. Times have changed the views. I adapt, but struggle with the changing landscape in ways that some have described me as a "troll' because I choose not to acquiesce when confronted by herd mentality.

I am intrigued by "connections" the path of a conversation can offer up a most interesting story. I have the time. Some days I do not have the ability, so the path may have to wait for another day... unless I am drawn down another...

    My posts reflect my paths...

...it is as honest a description as I care to "socially share"
I am glad you agree, that it is fitting.

  13. I'm gladdened by your response here on Zara Altair's channel, mon ami, Hart GA. I've long been cautious of folks that use a moniker vs. their real pic. I show one .. for reasons Zara understands. Zara, mia cara, has seen me real-time in vids. I prefer pics, but you, others, have your ways and needs. Cast apace as you will, where you can, directed, focused and for the purpose to better mankind, surely for those that deserve it most. Salute et votre santé.
