Are you a writer? Moreover, one specialising in certain topics?

Something's afoot. And I don't mean a 12" rule or that thing attached to your leg by your ankle.

Over the last couple of weeks, Zara Altair and I have been talking about the days of the generic freelance writer (possibly) being numbered.

Google is crying out for content from authoritative experts to add context to its ever-growing knowledge banks, which in turn feed the artificial intelligence underpinning search.

Scraped, hastily rehashed content from writers with little knowledge of the niche to which they're (eventually) contributing just won't cut it.

To this end, I've added a "Writers' Showcase" section to the Freelancer Plus community.

I'd love writers' feedback on how they're finding:
• competing for jobs in the wild, direct or through agencies;
• educating business owners in the way of the semantic web;
• also, in which areas they specialise;
► (and by targeting this speciality, how do they find clients take to paying a premium for this additional insight);
• and, yes - if you have work of which you're especially proud, let's see it live in the wild.

Why take this step now?
There are two reasons for asking for this feedback now:
1. - we're at a brand new dawn in search.

We have the power to help Google (and other search engines) learn.

But it's not a task we must undertake lightly. The onus is on us as content producers, consultants and editors to ensure that every page we help clients publish adds a semantic layer to their presence. We cannot confuse the knowledge-hungry search indexer.

This is a new, real opportunity to rise from the pack for writers and business owners alike. We can make a difference to what Google, thus our relevant offline worlds, understands about us, our clients and the world view in general.

Yes, some will scoff at these grandiose statements. Bless you all; we'll see you in the search results - or maybe not.

2. - this is a fact-finding mission with a purpose.

Using your input and feedback, there's something very special in the pipeline. And it will clear a blockage bugging both Zara and I better than a kilo of All-Bran taken with castor oil.

Watch this space for more info in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, writers, please feel free to contribute to the Showcase section.

Business owners, too. Let us know what's bothering you about traditional web marketing and, in particular, SEO.

Have a great weekend; here's looking forward to your input (and output ☺).
