ZorroSVG and Mobile Speed

Reducing image size will enhance the upload speed of your page. Productive Computer Systems found a great tool that works (most of the time) to help you reduce the size of .PNG images.

ZorroSVG - Major Size Reducer for Transparent Images

Google introduced AMP a week or so ago and it's pretty awesome at significantly reducing loading times for pages, on mobile, that's both good for users and for SEO.  However, the 'M' in AMP stands for mobile and of course as much hype as there is about mobile - there are still plenty of people using desktops and laptops (heck, I'm using one now).

So, how does one reduce page loading time?
One way is to use compression.  You can compress Jpegs pretty significantly.  The drawback is the quality of the display - highly compressed images look pretty bad.  You can try using PNG, but that's not smaller, actually larger, when it comes to big images with transparency.

Now we see all of these fancy pages with huge graphics on them and for those who have Google Fiber - it's not that big of a deal, but for most of us who don't - speed certainly isn't stellar on those pages, despite broadband access.  And Google clearly indicated that speed of loading of a page is a factor in their search rankings.

Enter ZorroSVG, which can help significantly reduce size of transparent PNGs.  Try it.
