Google To Require New Privacy Rules For Chrome Extensions

Google Chrome extensions have, until now, been a 'wild west' when it came to privacy. Extensions have been able to gather significant types of user data and browsing data without disclosing it or getting user permission.

Starting in mid-July, extensions will have to encrypt private and sensitive data, disclose their privacy policy, and give users prominent notice when collecting significant data unrelated to a prominent feature of the extension.
