Long Weekend Dedicated to Writing

Long Weekend Dedicated to Writing
Today I'm reviewing the mindmap for Ravenna: A Mosaic a novel of early Sixth Century Italy. So many power centers both political and ecclesiastical were juggling for position at this time that from time to time I pull back from a specific scene to look at the overview.
Mindmaps are a great way to see the relationships between political powers and character relationships.
If you are creating a story world, a mindmap helps visualize the interrelationships of people (your characters) and the overall view of your story world. I use Freemind http://goo.gl/MtMTo5 because it is quite comprehensive. There are many choices. Just be sure to choose a mindmapping program that works with the way you think.
This weekend I'll be finishing a chapter in the novel as well as working through at least one chapter in the second Argolicus mystery, The Peach Widow.
Keep writing!
Excellent "Break Down" !!!

I feel guilty sorry guilty I haven't had a chance to read the book I purchased yet! But I will!
ReplyDeleteGina Fiedel Hahaha! You are absolved of all guilt, my child. The story is very short so it won't fill your long weekend. :)
ReplyDeleteCoach G Moore This was the best way for me to get an overview of an interlaced world of Ravenna, capital of Italy; Rome, the old guard; Constatinople, the really big cheese; Arian & Trinitarian movers and shakers; the teenage boys in the story who are much later war heroes in the war with Belisarius; courtiers and hangers-on.
ReplyDeleteMany of the nodes open up to physical descriptions, political point of view, religious affiliation, links, etc.
Mindmapping was the best way for me to get the overview in visual format.
