Longhand Writing and First Ideas

Longhand Writing and First Ideas
H/T Peter Hatherley
When making notes for new text, do you start with handwritten notes?

(The) encoding hypothesis, ... says that when a person is taking notes, "the processing that occurs" will improve "learning and retention."

The seed ideas that come from your encoding will have a powerful impact on the text you write.

If you skip this step now, try jotting down the seed ideas for each piece of content, before you work on your traditional outline. You may find that your thoughts are more expansive.

If you sketch what you see in a museum you will remember much more than if you took photos. Though, if you study details of what you are taking a photo of you will remember quite well, also.

  1. Great intro Zara Altair This type of processing also occurs when you decide to cherry-pick concepts to use in your theme. I've done it on paper many times :)
