5 Things to Never Do on Google+
Especially number 5!
We all know that every social network is different. Each network has it's own set of unspoken bylaws and they aren't always 100% obvious.
In this post I list the 5 things that I believe to be the most crucial things to avoid if you're trying to build a highly engaged following on Google+.
Read the full post here:
For those who like the tl;dr version:
1. Link dumping (a.k.a. link littering)
2. Ignore Community guidelines
3. Post the exact same thing to multiple communities
4. Talk Google+ "doom and gloom"
5. Use the "also send email to" feature (unwisely)
Regarding that last one, I've cited a few posts by my friends Stephan Hovnanian, Mike Allton, and Daniel Futerman. They've outlined some very savvy ways of utilizing the "Also send email..." feature without being a spammer.
At the end of the day-- use Google+ how you want. But if you're trying to build a highly engaged audience, these 5 things are a great set of guides.

I am guilty of a couple of them but then I wouldn't be me if I could not rant once in a while, we've all done it, at least i don't use bad language. Bad grammar on the other hand I am guilty of especially when half my letters stick and my cursor wanders everywhere like a lost puppy Thats why much of my stuff makes me sound like a babbling idiot especially when I am up all night
ReplyDeleteArthur Morehead :)
ReplyDeleteLol Arthur Morehead!
ReplyDelete-The people who REALLY love us know that we ARE babbling idiots and love us for it because it means we're human. =D (That's my justification for being a babbling idiot at any rate...) ;))
Haven't seen one of these kinds of posts in a very long time. Think it means something? ;)
ReplyDeleteGina Fiedel I'm receiving a lot of very strange stuff recently. Non comment comments from strangers, especially.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what that's about, Zara Altair. Maybe a new influx..
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing these information
ReplyDeleteGina Fiedel I sure hope not I would really hate to see the link droppers and spammers ruin this. We all have been complaining (or at least I have) about lost traffic and now that Google has seen the light lets just hope it isn't for the reason of proving a point and slam the door shut again. If they would let us control our own spam business would be so much better. Reason is we all have differences when it to comes what we each call spam. i.e. Spam for an artist is not the same for a doctor or a home based business, know what I mean?
ReplyDeleteGina Fiedel Wowzer! I've been busy writing. Checked notifications. Bluehead nothingness galore. And, one starting harassing someone who was making legitimate comments.
ReplyDeleteInteresting point, Arthur Morehead. I've never thought about spam being different for different professions.
ReplyDeleteOh shoot, Zara Altair, I hate to hear that. But... I have heard about that sort of thing rearing up from time to time and then settling down again. I hope it settles down! Has your follower count gone up too?
