Circle Streams Setting
For those of you looking for quicker access to your Circle Streams in the new Google+ Web experience... look no further. We have a setting on iOS, Android, and the Web for Circle Stream users that adds a quick filter to your home stream. Just go to Settings > Advanced Settings and turn on "Enable circle streams in navigation."
As always, please send us any ideas/issues using the Send Feedback menu item to ensure we see them.
Thanks~
I liked Circles too, still do. They were the first big draw of G+. My guess is that it was Vic Gundotra who championed them (as most everything originally on G+) and once he left - the winds of reason left Google, or so it would seem from the direction G+ took.
ReplyDeleteI think the powers at be knew that they'd have a micro-revolution if they pulled Google Reader on Circles, so they did the next best thing - they simply hid them.
Fortunately, we, the old guard, can still use them, although with a somewhat limited functionality, but they ARE buried, regardless of what Luke Wroblewski says in his post here, and for most newcomers to G+ (there are still some coming to G+, right? ;) - they don't know about circles, don't use them and eventually Google will likely made one of their now famous announcements that due to lack of use - the Circles are being retired and that'll be that.
Am I, someone who's typically very pro-Google, being just a tad negative on them in this comment? You better believe it! There's nothing wrong with pushing Collections/Communities, but everything wrong with killing Circles, IMHO.
No Vicki Haas. You're right - the mobile works a bit different, but even that, if you simply click 'follow' - you'll essentially put them in 'following' circle, as you said, but that doesn't give anyone ideas about more circles and if you don't long-press - you don't even know the other circles exist.
ReplyDeleteIn the web version - one has to change an option in settings to even get to circles, ie if you don't turn on the option - you won't see the circle streams option on the left nav nor get to it in any way. Again, it's hidden and how many people start their use of any app by going through each and every option in settings? Virtually nobody does that, ie the circles are buried and aren't used.
Add on top of that the fact that many people who are even aware of circles don't even know exactly how they work, many think circles are a way to follow someone, which is partially true, but certainly NOT totally so.
So, it's too bad... clearly you and me and several others here mentioned that they use and like circles, but the way Google is doing it tell me that a) there won't be any improvements to circles, b) they'll eventually die... unfortunately.
Perhaps Luke Wroblewski wants to chime in and tell me that I'm all wet and the Circles will be improved, supported and unburied... since I'm sure he knows a lot more about the future than I do.
Zara Altair Thank you! I went back to Classic. Not an IT person and not working on a Post Doctorate anymore ;D LOLOL
ReplyDeleteSimply want my computer office to stay the same in order to work easily. ;D
Thank you for all the hard work you offer everyone!
