using an incognito window i did a google search for :
"Home Inspector Hayward CA"

this is a VERY typical search string for people looking for a home inspector in ANY location, so i use it because in optimizing these popular search patterns, i maximize the chances of being found when people search on that string.

1. Imran Sq does my adwords, he's amazing
2. Zara Altair does my technical writing, she's amazing
3. David Kutcher help with my website, he's amazing

the results of the search show at the top of the page 3 adwords paid ads, my business is position #1 for a very fair price, because we structured a highly targeted adwords campaign that lets the business focus on the top keywords, but through intelligent use of the features in adwords, the generic searches are removed, and highly targeted city searches are promoted within the adwords campaign.

the first organic listing is for the top 10 inspectors in hayward on yelp, so clicking there, brings a viewer to the screen shown in the image :

what a beautiful thing, there at the #1 position on yelp is our business, with an absolutely amazing real review showcased in a snippet below my listing, and just as wonderful off to the right is another low cost adwords ad displayed ABOVE the listing for Home Advisor, now THAT is pleasing :)

when i talk about local, and attempts to "localize" this is EXACTLY what i'm talking about, i like home advisor, they want me to advertise with them, i get it, but they are NOT local ... they are a lead generation company, and know NOTHING about hayward real estate compared to what we know.

and when i talk about being Small Business smart and agile, this is EXACTLY what i mean, work smart, work with the right people, always take the high road, and most importantly don't build your business for yourself ...

build your business by ultimately serving your clients !!!

it's all right here, there are NO secrets, i'm telling everyone the formula to run a successful small business ... do you want it, are you willing to find the best people to work with, are you willing to have your face pushed in rejected over & over, by people who are less qualified but better funded ?

do you have the qualifications to earn your way to position #1 on Yelp, you better be on point and the best at your game if you want to, and that means lots of studying, practice, and failures ... tons & tons of small failures are the FOUNDATION for eventual small business major victories.

winning, as it relates to small business, is more a matter of not losing.
