I love it when jewels emerge in private conversations on Hangouts.

  1. Absolutely, that would like breathing slowly and being angry.

  2. Great sentiment. Especially in business, it'll work against you and the project every time. I know a lot of control freak fine artists, though.

  7. Gina Fiedel Control freak in creativity is different from medium execution. It's like writing and editing. Two separate processes.

  8. Zara Altair, thanks for the clarification but I'm not sure I know what you mean by "medium execution".
I wasn't present for the conversation so maybe I'm missing some element here.

However, I definitely do see how writing and editing are different. Although.... editing is part of the process of writing and for myself, the two processes are integrated (with each other) when I write.

  9. Gina Fiedel where is the line for sanity and insanity??? Honestly, a little goofy to being quirky is rather fun, keeps people on their toes and then they reveal much more of their real selves. Rather FUN.
Everyone is rather off the beaten track!! Have you ever found a clean track to be interesting?
    Zara Altair hehehehe
Yes, that majic crack in everything, as Teodora Petkova mentioned... fun to make others laugh - and see their brains spark

Who wants to be around control freaks?? Time to put on the Nikes and that is not David Amerland lovely cat!!
    Cheers

  10. If it's a serious answer you're looking for, MicheleElys MER, I suspect there's no clear answer to that question, other than that thankfully, it's a continuum and there is no precise line or Einstein's, "Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."

There are so many delightful styles, examples or eruptions of "insanity". Probably most brands of "unique" can be seen as a little bit crazy or eccentric. The world would be pretty bland without it and I would venture to say that we each have some crazy part or another. I know that I'm a little crazy in some ways and too sane in others.

Some of my most endearing memories of my father are of the crazy things he did to make us laugh.

I would love to see the context for Teodora Petkova's comment you've mentioned a couple of times. It sounds intriguing! Magic crack in everything...

  11. Creativity is seeing what's not there.
control is manipulating what is there.
IMHO I think Zara Altair nailed it

  12. Ron Serina, is that what Zara Altair meant by "medium execution"? I was trying to get a handle on that earlier because I don't know what it means.

I thought we were talking about "creatives" (noun) as in the people assigned to do creative work- like in a business or agency. Or people who are artists of one sort or another. If we're talking about creativity, for me, that's a bit of a different animal.

But anyway, while I think those brief definitions are interesting and on point, I'm not comfortable with creativity being defined with by a singular statement. Trying to nail down creativity is by it's nature, trying to nail down the un-nailable. Like trying to create a formula which is limiting. Creativity is too complex and something people have been investigating too deeply for too long to tie up in one brief explanation.

Seeing what's not there, being flexible to possibilities that haven't yet been imagined, openness to changing a purpose, utilizing mistakes, play, experimenting, taking risks, lack of fear... manipulation of what already exists can be a creative act. But also there's mysterious unknowns, the flow and experience of losing track of time, not being able to explain what is happening on a moment to moment timeframe. That feeling of channeling from outside of oneself. IMHO, control can play a part in each of those things and perhaps even a big part because knowing what to do with what's arising in process counts and that's a sort of control. Rigidity maybe not so much.

  13. Gina Fiedel Excellent reply!!! Can't get any better than that, for now heheh

Ahhhh Teodora Petkova way of seeing the real person.

It was a conversation we three and I pulled in (Zara Altair) were having, hmmm yesterday??

I copied the quote when she was referring to me. Teo, as well as a few sees people for who they are; she pinned me!!! The quote was spot on.
you see something out of the ordinary - that magic crack in everything

and you Gina introduces us to each other.

  14. Gina Fiedel My goodness you wax elegantly with the creative erudite of Dali, Bette Davis and Einstein put together today. Impressive

Love this statement of your Trying to nail down creativity is by it's nature, trying to nail down the un-nailable.

And you hit on the nail!!!

This is why boxes do not fit for creative endeavors, they are only for packing and moving.

Am done with all my writing and speeches for this coming week, exhaustion of the brain cells has set in, and watching Jason Strathon DVDs, he is just too awesome not to watch!

May all of us get some deep REM sleep Ron Serina Zara Altair Gina Fiedel Teodora Petkova, arise and be creative, small or large, creativity always expands upon it'self

    Enjoy.............

  15. Thanks, MicheleElys MER! I don't know why I didn't get a notification of your comments to me, my apologies for the delay in replying.

Thanks for clarifying that it had been a private conversation. I was feeling a bit lost.

Glad you enjoyed my nails and un-nailable. :) Maybe it all depends on the hammer..... I was using my hammer today to hang a Haitian painting we'd had leaning up against a wall. I bought that hammer when I started art school to build stretchers for canvases. As Doug likes to say, "it came with me". An old friend and reminder of days long ago.

Congrats on finishing all your writing and speeches for the week!!! I'm seriously impressed.

  16. Being late here, as always :P Reading you and savoring :) Plus, I have a confession to make: I am a control freak. I like to put boundaries. I need some so that I can break free. :)))

  17. Gina Fiedel That's one if the things that I love about you ... You see every shade of grey imaginable while most are painting in black or white. I see creativity as a instantaneous spark, the word that fits or the color that's just right but completely different than what would be usual. A new use for past experience that solves an unsolvable problem. I agree that cultivating an atmosphere for creativity is an ongoing process. :) Extra big hug next time I see you for making me think this hard
