Decision Making Under Pressure

Decision Making Under Pressure
Whatever you may choose to call it the steps that allow us to control the stress we feel are largely the same:
Awareness – We should be aware of our own responses and where they come from. The moment we feel stress levels rising we need to be able to correctly identify the reason and then begin to address it.
Presence – We must be able to look at ourselves dispassionately, feeling and sensing what we feel and sense and, at the same time, looking at the tableau through the eyes of others. This allows us to reduce the pressure we feel, immediately.
Breath Control - Breathing deeply and evenly allows our body to take in much, valuable oxygen and, more importantly, to begin to attune its processes so we seize back control. fMRI research has shown that breathing through the nose and out of the mouth allows the brain’s higher executive decision making functions that had been shut down by cortisol to come back online.
