Reasons to keep information up-to-date at: AboutMe.Google.com

▶ It's your face across Google services.
▶ It's a supporting asset across Google services like Google+ and others.
▶ It's connected to Google Contacts: data people can see is added to their contact entry for you.

My recommendation would be to fill out all the cards, deciding who can see what as you do so.
