I was doing research for historical fiction, imagining the instruments and music of early 6th Century Italy where, at the time, music was forbidden in the traditional church but not in the Arian tradition of Ostorogth King Theoderic. Part of the 80% of research that fiction readers don't see.
Interview with a modern maker of the Italian bagpipe which was used as far back as the stories.
