Parenting in the Age of Fear
When I was a kid we played for hours outside with our friends. We climbed trees. We took long bike rides. We played in the "wild" coastal scrubland behind my friend's house. We took walks for a mile or two. We explored the world.
My sister and I felt we were lucky because unlike other kids we got to be with my Dad, a priest, while he was working. We rode with him while he made home visits and waited in the car while he attended to the sick, sorrowful, and dying.
Apparently now all these activities are considered child neglect.
