Apricots tree-ripened. Nothing like them!

When I was small  we lived in Benicia, California. My Dad would put me on the back of the bicycle on a padded carry rack (no bicycle seats then) and off we would go. We took the ferry (no bridge, either) across to Martinez and often rode to Berkeley.

Along the way was an apricot orchard. My Dad was place his hand under the apricots on the branches. The ones that fell off into his hand were just ripe. Those were the ones we ate.

Later, in high school years, we lived in Los Altos which, then, had many, many apricot orchards. I would ride my bicycle out and around and do the same thing.

Sun-ripened, off-the-tree apricots. My favorite fruit.
