Google's mobile friendly algorithm as a search ranking factor: what you need to know

♨  April 21 is the deadline Google set for the webmasters to get mobile ready. http://tgcafe.it/1LQ0Zbe

"Take out your phone, look up your web site. See if there is a gray mobile friendly label in your description snippet. If it is in the search results, if you see it, that means that Google understands that your site is mobile friendly and if you don’t see it then we don’t see that your site is mobile friendly or your is not mobile friendly." http://tgcafe.it/1HFy3l1

- how to quickly check which pages on your site are/aren't mobile-friendly:

From Google search, type the following command with your domain name in it:

site:yourdomainname.com

This will bring up all the indexed pages on your site. Then you can scroll through them to see if ALL your pages have the mobile-friendly icon.

♨  Google's mobile friendly ranking algorithm will "take a few days to roll out, like maybe a week or so." http://tgcafe.it/1NgvLL2

♨  The mobile friendly ranking algorithm will affect mobile searches in ALL languages worldwide and 'will have a significant impact in our search results.' according to Google http://tgcafe.it/1ARdm3P

♨  It'll have a bigger impact on the search results than Penguin and Panda did. http://tgcafe.it/1FGOBvD

♨  It is a yes or no algorithm (either you are mobile friendly or not) - no 'degrees' of mobile friendliness. http://tgcafe.it/1Cqpwmc

♨  The mobile friendly ranking algorithm will not have any impact on the desktop search whatsoever. http://tgcafe.it/1NgvLL2

♨  Mobile titles & descriptions are handled the same as desktop for now, but this may change in the future. http://tgcafe.it/1FZBV1w

Suggestion: keep your descriptions even shorter for mobile (the current desktop guideline is about 150 characters).

♨  Google News won’t be impacted by the Mobile-Friendly algorithm. http://tgcafe.it/1yffZJA ht Glenn Gabe

♨  Brand searches are unlikely to be impacted - if a brand is not mobile-friendly and someone searches for them after April 21st on their mobile device, they are still likely to show up at the top of the results, since they are, indeed, the most relevant response to the searcher's query. http://tgcafe.it/1y5cOZW

♨  Responsive design works well, but it's not the only way to be mobile friendly. http://tgcafe.it/1MvxRGC

♨  Your site must unblock CSS & javascript to pass mobile friendly test. http://tgcafe.it/1MvxRGC

♨   The Mobile-Friendly algorithm is page-by-page.

In other words, as Michael Martinez says in his post (http://tgcafe.it/1CVi1V0) "If you have three pages on a 1,000-page site that act like income-producing landing pages, how many pages on your site need to be ready by April 21? Just three as far as I can see."

I am planning on keeping this post continuously updated as mobile friendly algorithm news/notes/clarifications come out.

If you have anything to add, let me know in comments.

I am also planning on offering Traffic Generation Café Wordpress theme, which is completely mobile responsive (among other great features), for sale in the near future.

So if your site runs on Wordpress and you need an easy solution to your site mobile unfriendliness, this might be it.

Stay tuned!
