"Why You Should Ignore Vanity Metrics And Focus On Engagement"
Many of us here on Google+, have been talking about the importance of engagement metrics for years now. Now, we're not the only ones! In a recent Forbes piece, you'll find gems like this:
"Engagement metrics.. help you understand how much of an impact your website and social media presence are having on your ability to attract, retain and convert potential customers. By measuring how potential customers engage with your website and your social media presence, you’ll be able to develop a far better understanding of whether your marketing efforts are working." 100% agreed!
Understanding metrics like comments per post, plus ones/likes per post and shares, help you understand just how engaged your audience is with your brand. Vanity metrics like follow and view counts, have no impact because simply having a large following doesn't mean anyone is actually interested in your brand.
Visualize engagement
To help you quickly see how engaged your audience is, NOD3x provides the Relations Graph. On this graph, you'll see which posts are most popular and exactly what type of engagement you're getting on them.

That difference is so important too Zara Altair, thanks for sharing. It's a good idea to keep in mind also, that engagement metrics can become vanity metrics if not properly understood in relation to conversion of valuable goals.
