The Restaurant Review of Life

The Restaurant Review of Life
I've been out to eat in restaurants with my French, French-trained, chef son-in-law. These 10 Things Only Chefs Notice When Eating Out is totally off the mark. Good chefs notice the food.

There's owner/management, front of the house, and back of the house. Most of the details listed are the responsibility of management and front of the house staff. The stuff the public experiences. Harried or overly friendly servers belongs in the front of the house domain.

Good chefs notice the food.

In my view the items listed are something anyone who dines out notices and takes into consideration when deciding to return or not.

I go out to eat something I probably wouldn't prepare at home. I want a food experience. I want tastes, smells, texture, and, depending on the scale of the restaurant, presentation. Those are the elements my son-in-law notices and what I notice when I'm writing the restaurant review of life in my head.

Sparkling chandeliers are not the sine qua non of good food.

  1. Zara Altair your son-in-law is absolutely correct!!!
I'm a veggie and all too often people suggest, have a salad what a novel idea for a vegetarian who grew up in Europe and South America.

I look for unique flavours, something I will cook at home or have the training, presentation is a big one!! Texture and how the flavours linger and where they hit. how clean the place is and the attention I am given. That is when I tell people, if all is well done, they will be recommended to many people because of their excellence!!
